Daring to Change the World

  ABOUT US

As mother and daughter, we have been working together to facilitate women's healing and empowerment for the last 8 years. Using Crystal’s highly effective energy based approach that integrates somatic psychology, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, body-mind awareness and systems thinking, women are given individualized practices to transform self-limiting habits, beliefs, and relationship dynamics. The wounds of the past and how we survived them no longer have to define who we think we are and unconsciously influence our life choices.

Crystal Forthomme, M.A.
Co-Founder and Facilitator

Crystal’s work for the past thirty years has been devoted to exploring the relationship between healing and empowerment. As a professor at John F. Kennedy University, she taught for over a decade in the graduate programs of Holistic Health Education and Transpersonal Psychology, where she taught classes in Stress Response Training, Intimacy: A Path of the Heart, Movement Psychology, Human Sexuality, Teacher Training Seminars, Paradigms of Consciousness and Transpersonal Bodywork. As a mid-wife to her students, Crystal prepared pioneers in these emerging fields in the early 1980’s.

For three decades, Crystal has had a private practice in movement psychology and facilitated empowerment workshops for women entitled, Awakening the Power of the Feminine, Changing with the Change: Menopause, A Gateway to Wholeness, and Being In Action. She is known as a catalyst for change, an innovative teacher, and an evocative and inspirational speaker.

Crystal has facilitated leadership and teambuilding for global executives for twenty years. Her work, primarily with RealChange Network, integrates principles and practices from the martial arts to facilitate embodied leadership and empowered, creative teams. She is a leadership coach for executives and for Social Venture Network.

In addition, Crystal expresses her deep passion for life and relationships through poetry, song and dance. Crystal is happily married, the proud mother of three grown daughters, and known adoringly by her three grandchildren as “Ocean Gramma.”

Rhiannon Surrenda, M.A.
Co-Founder and Facilitator

At 17 years old, Rhiannon became a youth educator, wanting to make a difference for the youth of her community. This covered topics from self-esteem to sexuality and drug and alcohol education, laying the foundation for her counseling work with “at-risk” youth at the Contra Costa Probation department, as well as the Log Cabin Juvenile Detention Facility. Recognized for her teaching ability, Rhiannon was asked to be a student teacher in the Sociology department at San Francisco State University. She then moved into co-facilitating Being In Action leadership groups, further developing her strength as a teacher/facilitator of women on their path to empowerment. With a B.A. in Psychology from SFSU, an M.A. in Organizational Psychology and a Graduate Certificate in Conflict Management both from JFKU, Rhiannon worked for two consulting firms, The Leadership Edge and Real Change Network as a Training and Research Associate. She assisted in International Learning Expeditions, Executive team-building and Leadership Seminars and geographically dispersed team research and trainings. Rhiannon expresses her passion and creativity through dance, music, photography and time at the beach.
